Why The Keto Diet Helps Reverse Type II Diabetes

Are you a Type II Diabetic, looking for a way to effectively manage it, get it under control, or even reverse it? Recent studies suggest that the Ketogenic (Keto) Diet may be an effective tool for you to do just that.

But what is the Keto Diet?

The Keto Diet is not new, it was developed nearly 100 years ago, and was intended to treat epilepsy. But it has now become known as an effective nutrition plan for people who are not only health-conscious, but want to perform better physically. It has also been noted that another benefit of Keto is that along with exercise and possibly some medications, it helps control weight, glucose and insulin, and for a person diagnosed with Diabetes, that's extremely important..

Foods to eat on the Keto Diet

The Keto Diet is a low carb, high fat diet, in which the goal is for you to receive most of your energy from heart healthy fats rather than from glucose or carbs. The diet uses foods such as:

  • Eggs - Omega-3 whole eggs or pasteurized
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Vegetables
  • Unprocessed cheese such as goat cheese, blue cheese, cream cheese, cheddar or mozzarella
  • Oils such as coconut oil, avocado oil and extra virgin oil
  • Meats such as red meat, turkey, bacon, chicken, ham or sausage
  • Fatty fish such as mackerel, salmon, tuna, trout
  • Heavy cream and grass-fed butter
  • Avocados
  • Salt and Pepper as well as other herbs and spices

How can Keto Help with Diabetes?

A person's body, who has Type II Diabetes, doesn't respond to the insulin hormone that the body produces to help use the glucose or blood sugar effectively. Which causes their blood sugar to increase, and can lead to many types of illness:

  • Kidney damage
  • Nerve damage
  • Sleep apnea
  • Eye disease
  • Heart disease
  • Obesity

One of the key components to managing Diabetes and living a healthier life is to properly manage your diet, keeping your blood sugar levels as close to normal as you can.

The Keto diet can help, because it's main focus is to limit carbs and glucose which are enemy number one to a person with diabetes...when you lower the levels of their intake, you lower and control the symptoms of diabetes.
