Losing Weight and Hormonal Balance
To lose weight takes education and understanding. Your physiology can be your best friend or your worst foe. Your body has fat burning and fat storing hormones that are the key to losing weight and keeping it off. Calories are insignificant compared to your hormonal balance. We all know people who can eat anything and not gain weight, and we know people that can look a food and seemingly gain 5 pounds. Use this hormonal knowledge to your advantage and you will easily start losing weight, break the rules and you are doomed to the Yo-Yo diet syndrome. In a previous post we talked about the fat storing hormones. Today I want to talk about the fat burning hormones.
There are 5 fat burning hormones:
- T-Growth Hormone: Made by your pituitary gland, it is stimulated to make more GH by eating protein and vigorous exercise.
- Insulin Like Growth factor and Glucagon: Both are made by the liver stimulated by an empty stomach. These hormones are designed to maintain your blood sugar level in between meals by releasing stored glucose from your liver and fat which will be converted to glucose for use by the cells for energy.
- Adrenaline: Is made by the adrenal gland and secreted to mobilize fat for energy in times of stress.
- Testosterone: Creates lean muscle mass and is responsible for male characteristics made by the ovaries.
To lose weight the glands that produce these hormones must be working correctly. If they’re not, you are fighting an uphill battle with weight loss. The key to weight loss is to have specific labs test done for both your fat burning and fat storing hormones and determine what is out of balance. Once this information is obtained, a game plan can be successfully implemented to address your weight problem. The exciting thing about this approach is that not only do you lose weight easily, quickly and without cravings, but in the process you start regaining your overall health again, and other nagging complaints that you have had for years start to disappear. A healthy body will lose weight and keep it off, an unhealthy body will lose, gain, lose gain.
