Could Hidden Food Allergies Be Contributing To Your Chronic Illness?
According to WebMD millions of Americans suffer with food allergies and or sensitivities.
When people eat the wrong foods, foods their IMMUNE SYSTEM and DIGESTIVE SYSTEM don’t like, this spikes INFLAMMATION…INFLAMMATION is at the root cause of a LOT of chronic illness. High inflammation in the body, is the enemy of health.
Inflammation is implicated in:
- Auto-immune conditions
- R.A., Hashimoto’s
- Low thyroid
- Skin conditions
- Heart disease
- Hormonal imbalance
- Weight loss resistance
And these are just a few…
The difference between allergies and sensitivities:
Let’s distinguish the difference between a true “allergy” and “food sensitivity”:
- When a person has a true allergy there is an immediate reaction in the body via the IGE antibody response. Eat a peanut, have shellfish or get stung by a bee and you immediately swell up or have some dramatic symptom. These are the reactions that if you have them you already know about.
- What is much more insidious are food sensitivities that you develop without the immediate response of symptoms. These are IGG related and typically create a delayed response, so you don’t immediately correlate the food exposure to any symptom. These delayed reactions are often related to improper digestion; meaning food isn’t being breakdown properly and passes thru the intestinal membranes provoking an immune response at the gut level.
How do you find out if the foods you are eating are contributing to your health condition?

Test Don’t Guess!
Once food reactions have been discovered there are two main courses of action:
- Avoid offenders for several months to dampen the heightened immune response
- Heal the gut and reduce overall inflammation
Reducing inflammation would involve changing your overall diet from a highly refined, high sugar pro- inflammatory diet to a low sugar whole food nutrient dense low inflammatory diet.
In addition to food sensitivity testing other laboratory evaluation may be necessary based on the condition. Once the above issues are addressed and the patient has avoided the offenders for several months the patient can reintroduce one food at a time to see if there is any spike in symptoms, if not it is safe to assume that the gut and immune system have reset, allowing the body to process that food without reaction. Re-testing with Food test 95 is also an option. Sometimes the re-introduction is not successful and the patient will continue to need to continue to avoid the offender for an extended period of time.
In our office we find food testing and gut rehabilitation to be an important strategy in addressing most chronic health conditions.
